Dealing with Discouragement/Disappointment

  • Everybody Needs A Little Tenderness is a good pick up song and reminds everyone that we all make mistakes or have bad days...whether we are adults or kids! If the child is feeling down, cheer him/her up by playing this song while including him/her in a family or one-to-one activity such as baking cookies, washing the car, making dinner, etc.
  • In Breathing Healthy, Breathing Free even Spinoza has to overcome the “road blocks” of crossing the river. Sometimes kids listen to other sources even more than their parents. It helps to know that not everyone else is perfect or also has to work at things. The episode of Spinoza crossing the river is an excellent example. Talk about who helped Spinoza and who did not - this is a good application to everyday life.
  • Play You Are All You Need To Be and listen with the child. Discuss with them how Spinoza believes in himself and talk to the child about good things they do. Have the child make a list or keep a journal, starting each page out with something good they did that day.
